Luxury self-catering accommodation in Romsey

‘Romsey' is believed to originate from its Old English name ‘Rum Island’; denoting its time as a monastic retreat in the early Middle Ages. Today it's a resoundingly English market town; horse shows, literary festivals, winter carnivals and all.

Perched atop its peaceful hummock overlooking water meadows of the River Test’s, this ancient and picturesque town is a popular base for walkers and cyclists who come to peddle around the pretty villages of the Test Valley. Life in romantic Romsey has been described by the weekend papers as ‘bourgeois provincial’ and 'timlessly English'. It is a place where young and fashionable retirees enjoy quintessential market-town goings on as well as the odd trip to London for Michelin starred meals and West End shows.

The town is dominated by the imposing Romsey Abbey, the second largest church in whole of Hampshire after Winchester Cathedral. Other notable landmarks nearby include Emberly Park, former home of Florence Nightingale, and King John’s House which supposedly served as a hunting lodge for King John when he stalked the New Forest. The Grade-I listed building and adjoining Tudor cottage (which locals claim is haunted) showcase a rare bone floor and 14th Century graffiti carved into the walls. A place full of history.
