Luxury self-catering accommodation in St Agnes

Halfway between Newquay and St Ives on the north Cornish coast is this bustling village, rich in mining history and surrounded by verdant cliff paths, nestled within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and World Heritage Site.

St Agnes is made up of two parts, making it a superb escape. There's a compact little village with its bijou shops and cluster of cottages, popular with artists and designers who have settled here. Then there's a gleaming stretch of Trevaunance Cove, where rolling waves tumble to shore and families sprawl across the sand throughout summer. The natural beauty of the area makes it popular with local history enthusiasts, who come here to explore the remnants of the crumbling engine houses that are perched on the clifftops and still visible to passing hikers.

Hints of Poldark are never far off in this county, and many dramatic horse gallops were filmed along the hauntingly beautiful cliff area around Chapel Porth. A ramble around the headlands towards this pretty beach is the best way to revisit the scenes, taking in banks of vibrant heather, verdant ferns and sprigs of golden gorse along the way. The original World Belly Board Championships first surfaced in Chapel Porth, so grab a board and perfect your technique. Meanwhile, the little café serves up scoops of local ice cream, just in time for the return march home.
